St. Andrews

Rating: 4

Things to Know:

  • St Andrews is a university where students are expected to learn independently and take responsibility for their coursework (i.e. there’s no busy work and professors don’t remind students about deadlines)
  • The town and university are beautiful
  • There’s a lot of international students so you don’t stick out as a study abroad student
  • Expect the classes (especially if taking honours courses) to be a lot more challenging than Elon
  • Finding academic help when you need it can be challenging
  • It’s really nice to only spend 4 hours a week in class
  • While the location isn’t in a major city, there’s lots to see and do in Scotland and it is possible to take trips out of the UK
  • Residence halls (aka dorms) are a lot cheaper than apartments and the locations tend to be much closer to campus
  • Definitely get a scone at Gorgeous, visit the toastie bar (the St Andrews version of Late Night), and check out Topping & Co for a cozy atmosphere and some new books
